At the start of May 2017 I developed Cauda Equina Syndrome where I suddenly found myself paralyzed from the waist down and in need of emergency back surgery. Bored in the hospital, I started making little comics about what I was going through as a way to vent my frustrations. Then I kept doing them as a way to track my recovery through rehab and what it was like learning to walk all over again. Cauda Equina Syndrome effects about 1 in 70,000 people a year, and the people who have it experience it very differently. It sounds scary, and it was, but I promise this book is mostly positive and maybe even a little funny.
